Writing for BBC Sport, pundit Mark Lawrenson cast his weekly top tier scoreline predictions, and opted for a comfortable 2-0 win for the visitors.

Justifying his pick, Lawro claimed: "Brighton got an excellent win at Newcastle last week. Just as they did against Chelsea in their first game, they created plenty of chances, which is a really good sign of how they have progressed since last season. They look a lot more dangerous.

"United are under pressure already but I think their defeat at home by Crystal Palace will act as the kick up the backside they need. I'd be surprised if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side do not produce a much better performance this time."

Meanwhile, Lawrenson's sparring partner for the week, singer-songwriter Declan McKenna, opted for a 2-1 United victory, and said: "This one could go either way. As a team, I rate Brighton - they thrashed us (Spurs) 3-0 last season - but United have some great individual players who can make the difference on their day."

The last time the two sides met, back in June, the Red Devils triumphed 3-0, thanks to a brace from Bruno Fernandes and a well-taken goal from Mason Greenwood.

The Seagulls have won two of their last ten meetings with United, in a record stretching all the way back to 1994.
