Revealed! Brighton player among worst in Premier League for referee run-ins

Brighton have arguably been one of the most anomalous sides in the Premier League this season.

The Seagulls have impressed for vast swathes of the campaign, but have still found themselves in the midst of a relegation battle, and despite back-to-back wins in the top flight, are still only six points clear of the relegation zone.

One of the other bizarre contradictions in Albion’s campaign has come in their disciplinary record.

On the one hand, they have picked up just 36 yellow cards, which is the joint-third-lowest tally in the division.

Appearances: 20 Minutes: 1517 Fouls: 25 Fouls per game: 1.25 Minutes per foul: 60.68 Yellow cards: 5 Minutes per card: 303.40 Fouls per booking: 5.00

On the other, Graham Potter’s side have amassed three reds – the joint-third-highest in the top flight this season.

It’s an odd detail, although their lack of bookings may have something to do with their tendency to keep hold of the ball.

Interestingly for a side who are at the wrong end of the table, Brighton have averaged a majority of possession in Premier League matches this term – and the less time you spend without the ball, the fewer chances you have to commit fouls.

But that’s not to say that the Seagulls are completely without sin, and in terms of getting in trouble with referees, there is one Albion player who has really stood out...

Appearances: 20 Minutes: 1737 Fouls: 30 Fouls per game: 1.5 Minutes per foul: 57.90 Yellow cards: 6 Minutes per card: 289.50 Fouls per booking: 5.00
