Sean Dyche gives surprise verdict on Graham Potter and Brighton's Liverpool win

Burnley boss Sean Dyche believes Graham Potter's ability to balance defence and attack has been key to Brighton's recent success.

Brighton have now claimed six points from their last two matches thanks to well-deserved 1-0 wins against Tottenham and champions Liverpool.

Potter's team arrive at Turf Moor in a good moment and have 10 points from their last 12, four clean sheets in a row and 10 points clear of the bottom three.

"I think they'll be delighted," said Dyche on Albion's 1-0 win at Anfield last Wednesday. "There's a little bit of noise about Liverpool, they're not quite on song, but you've still got to play well, which they did.

"I saw most of the game, they defended well, defended in numbers, but still attacked well. They found that balance and they'll be looking to do that again. You've got to be effective."

Dyche has also been impressed with the job Potter has done since he arrived at Brighton from Swansea in May 2019.

Potter guided Albion to their best ever Premier League points tally in first season and, after some patchy early season form, Brighton are finding form once more.

"In my brief meetings with him I like him as a bloke," said Dyche. "He's very honest, it seems, about what he wants to achieve and I think they're still a side that builds on defensive organisation.

"You have to defend well in the Premier League, there's no doubt about that."

Burnley, who are 17th in the standings but eight points clear of the drop zone, may be without full-back Charlie Taylor, winger Robbie Brady, midfielder Josh Brownhill and strikers Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes this weekend.

The quintet were all absent for the midweek defeat against Manchester City and could miss out once more against Brighton, who emulated Burnley in defeating Liverpool at Anfield to leapfrog the Clarets into 15th in the table.

“I think they're a good outfit, I think the manager has done a lot of good work," said Dyche.

"He's stuck to what he believes in and he's willing to be flexible. They had a tough spell but they're coming through it so it's another good save and it makes for another good Premier League game.

"It's another challenge for us, we're used to these challenges and we'll be ready to take it on."

Brighton will be without Solly March after the winger hobbled off against Liverpool. But Potter could welcome back Joel Veltman and Alexis Mac Allister, who both missed the shock win at Anfield.

Tariq Lamptey (hamstring), Danny Welbeck (knee), Alireza Jahanbakhsh (hamstring) and Florin Andone (knee) are still sidelined.

“Burnley are very good at what they do," said Potter. They make it very difficult and they’ve got a real clarity of what they are trying to achieve.

"I have huge respect for Sean Dyche and the job he has done there. Fantastic. I like what they do a lot. You can see the work.

"So it’s going to be a tough match. It’s the same in that you have to have the balance in defence and attack.

"You have to be aware and respectful of the opposition. Every opposition brings something different, it’s an incredible test and we should never lose sight of that in the Premier League.

"It doesn’t happen very often that you go to the champions and win, so we’ll enjoy that, but pretty quickly we’ll be back down to earth.”
