Potter’s side, unbeaten in their previous six league matches, have climbed away from the relegation zone in recent weeks, though Fulham’s upturn in form has made things slightly more nervy.

Ahead of facing rivals Crystal Palace at the Amex Stadium tonight, Albion can move seven points above the bottom three with a victory. The points and bragging rights at stake contribute to a massive encounter.

And reflecting on the Seagulls’ current form, Warnock explained why he is impressed by Potter – urging the club to stick with him long-term.

He told Sky Sports’ Football Show: “There were a lot of questions asked about the style of football they were playing but they were very similar on points to where Chris Hughton was.

“But now they’re starting to be a little bit more clinical, they’re starting to show a little bit of a tougher side to them, a more resilient side as well, I think they’re much improved.

"What you have to think is, when you employ someone like (Graham) Potter is, it’s not for the short-term, it’s not for that one season, it’s for four or five years down the line and you try and implement a different style of play throughout the whole club so that your academy also grow into the way they want to play going into the first-team.

"He’s done extremely well and I think Brighton will be safe this season.”
