We'll only go down if we're not good enough or don't work hard enough - Brighton boss

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton says his side will only be relegated from the Premier League if they're not good enough or don't work hard enough.

The Albion were promoted into the top flight in 2017 having lost in the Championship play-offs in three of the previous four seasons.

Having worked so hard to get into the Premier League, Hughton says his players have to make sure they work as hard as possible to stay there.

Brighton's boss said: "We need to do well enough in these next five games and if there's a group of players who want to finish the best way we can, we've got to improve the performances.

"It's there for you. What I can't do is fill them with fear.

"All I can do is tell them what are the facts. We have five games to go, are two points above the relegation zone and we don't want to rely on other teams.

"It's in your hands.

"The only thing that will stop that happening is if we're not good enough in the end or you don't work hard enough to make it happen.

"It's up to them to make sure it's not that we're not working hard enough."

Hughton added his player have to enjoy the challenge of the next matches: "We have five games left and what you want to do is get the best out of the players.

"Have we been absolutely brilliant this season? No we haven't but we've been good enough to be in a position in the league, never comfortable, but that we would have been happy with.

"What I don't want to do is put the fear into them and make them go into these games more fearful than to enjoy the challenge. That's what is has to be.

"They have to enjoy the challenges of what the next five games are going to bring. It's not only Saturday's game but it's going into playing against a Tottenham team in a new stadium and how big and how good would it be to put in a performance that can possibly get us a result?

"They're all the positive challenges we're putting to them."
