Lallana, 32, is struggling with a calf injury sustained during the recent 1-0 loss at Sheffield United and is also doubtful for Brighton's trip to Wolves this Sunday.

The win against Leeds moved Brighton 10 points clear of the relegation places with four matches remaining but Lallana will hope to return and play a key role in Albion's final matches.

Graham Potter's team head to Wolves next Sunday before home games against West Ham (May 15) and Manchester City.

They finish the season at Arsenal (May 23) and would need to take five points from those four matches to beat last season's record Premier League points total of 41 points.

“He wasn’t fit to play (against Leeds)," explained Potter after the 2-0 victory. "We will have to see how he responds this week.

“An outside chance for Wolves but we may have to focus towards West Ham but we will see.”

Midfielder Pascal Gross was excellent against Leeds in Lallana's absence and with their Premier League status virtually secured, the German is also hoping to surpass last season's points tally.

“Looking at the table, a little bit of pressure has been released. It's not done yet but three points at this stage of the season is a big step forward.

“We want to beat the points tally we got last season and that is the aim we are talking about as a squad from the last four games.”

Gross opened the scoring last Saturday from the penalty spot and then saw Danny Welbeck net a decisive second to seal the three points against Marcelo Bielsa's team.

“It was incredible," said Gross when asked about Welbeck's goal. "After he scored I told him it was different class.

"Danny had a tough period with injuries, but he has a had a run of games and he has fantastic quality that he shows every day in training. It’s good to play with him.

“He has brought a lot to the team. He’s a great guy around the squad and he has massive quality that rubs off on other players.”
