Friend has taken charge of three Brighton games so far this season and the Seagulls have won all three.

Albion beat Manchester United 3-2 in their first home game of the season in August, overcame West Ham United 1-0 at the Amex in October and beat arch rivals Crystal Palace 3-1 at home in December.

Friend has shown 58 yellow cards in 15 Premier League matches this season and brandished just one red card, to Brighton's Shane Duffy for violent conduct in the win against Palace.

Friend has taken charge of just one Liverpool game this season and that was when they exited the EFL Cup 2-1 to Chelsea at Anfield in September.

The Leicester-based official has been more of a lucky omen for the Reds in the Premier League of late, though. He took charge of five Liverpool games last season and they won all five, including 4-0 against Brighton in May.
