Heath rue key absentees in heavy defeat

A depleted Broadbridge Heath were overwhelmed at Eastbourne in Saturday’s 6-1 defeat, only their second County League Division 2 game for a month.

Steve Painter’s men were missing key midfield dup Ben Arthur and Grant Miller, plus skipper Martyn Flack and keeper James Fisher, which meant a debut for 16-year-old Kieran Elliott in goal.

But that did not stop them taking the lead on the break, when Ross Swaine’s clearance was collected by Jake Holmes, who crossed for Damon Aston to steal betwene two defenders and plant home a bullet header, before Jamal Sultan almost made it two when he was fed by Dan Attwater.

But after that it was all downhill, as Danny Simmonds’ header levelled the scores before Peter Cooper and Liam Baitup made it 3-1 at the break.

Baitup then bundled home the fourth and substitute Jack Divall’s brace completed the rout.
