Second half goals from Anthony Knockaert and Solly March took Brighton to all three points and ended a two game losing run in the Championship.

The 31-year-old German defender made just his sixth appearance of the season and first since the 3-3 draw at Brentford last month, after Shane Duffy was ruled out for six weeks with a broken metatarsal.

Talking about the 1,006 Albion fans who made the long 454-mile round trip, Hunemeier said: "They were brilliant, you cannot ask for me. It's a long journey, they have four hours back home and most of them are probably going to work in the morning.

"It's really nice and fair play to them."

Reflecting on the win, Hunemeier said: "There's nothing better than to get three points away from home. All of the other teams were waiting for probably another set-back for us but we delivered today and I'm really pleased with that."

Having not played much, Hunemeier says his fitness levels are good and he came through the 90 minutes fine: "I'm happy with my fitness level and I'm feeling quite good now.

“I wasn’t in the team for a long, long time but I couldn’t blame anyone because Dunky [Lewis Dunk] and Duffy have done so well.

“You have to be in the best shape, train well and that’s what I do all the time. I had to wait for the time when I’d be needed, so I’m quite happy to be back on the pitch now.

“I want to perform well, be part of the team and help us get to where we all want to be.

“There’s nothing better than getting promoted. I’ve done it once with Paderborn and that was a big surprise. We’re now in a really good position, came close last year and now we want to do it.

"A lot of boys came in today, like Jiri Skalak, Solly (March), Richie Towell, Beram (Kayal), who didn't play a lot, so that's really good.

"It's good for the team spirit that the boys stepped in, performed well and that's what you want to have as a team, big competition as it's good for the team spirit as well."
