The Iranian winger joined Albion for a reported club record fee of £17m from AZ Alkmaar last month and came on to make his debut 19 minutes from time.

The Seagulls were already trailing 2-0 after Roberto Pereyra's double but Jahanbakhsh is confident Albion will improve in the coming weeks.

Reflecting on his first game for the club, Jahanbakhsh said: “Unfortunately we lost the game but for me personally it was really nice to make my debut.

"I was waiting for this moment for a long time. I had a good feeling to go in and just do my things but unfortunately our performance could have been better.

"At the beginning of the season, it can be like this. We need to get to know each other more and play more games.

"Away games are always tough ones but we have a lot of quality, so we will do a better job in the future."

Jahanbakhsh was one of ten summer signings for Albion and he predicts better times are ahead once the players have gelled more.

He said: "Every team needs time to get to know each other, especially if you bring in new players.

"We have got a few new players, so we just need to get to know each other more but the guys who played also played together last year, plus me and Bissou (Yves Bissouma) in the second half.

"It's just the beginning of the season and we know it's important to get points from day one but today it didn't happen unfortunately.

"There's going to be good days for us. We have quality players and a good manager, so I am confident we can improve.

"We have a mix of experienced players and young players and I'm just really looking forward to the upcoming games once we've got to know each other more and when we play more as a team.

"I think we're going to have a bright future with this team. That's something I'm pretty sure about."
