Albion trailed 2-0 in the quarter-final tie with just two minutes to go but Locadia struck on 88 minutes and then Solly March equalised deep in injury-time to send the game to extra-time and then penalties.

Locadia was one of five Brighton players to score from the spot as the Seagulls progressed 5-4.

The Dutch striker hailed Brighton's character afterwards and said: "We showed that in a lot of games, but today it was very important for us to show character and at the end of the day it was a really big team performance.

"Thumbs up to the fans that travelled for us and it’s a big team performance for us.

"You come into a very intense game and a very intense Millwall. You’ve just got to play your game and show the quality that you’ve got."

Locadia rifled home to make it 2-1 on 88 minutes and then looked on as Millwall keeper David Martin let Solly March's free kick go through his hands and into the net.

Talking about his goal, Locadia said: "It was a great finish, but the team performance is more important."

And on March's late equaliser, he said: "I thought the keeper caught it, but he made a big mistake. From my point of view, it was the keeper’s mistake but that’s what happened."

Albion will now face Manchester City in the semi-finals at Wembley over the weekend of April 6 and 7.

Locadia said: "It’s a difficult draw, but you’ve got to go there and enjoy the game. It’s a new experience for everybody to go to Wembley. For the fans and our family.

"It’s City, and they’re a good team. You’ve got to enjoy the game and not think about other things, just to enjoy it."
