The 18-year-old joined on a three-year deal from Solskjær's Molde team this evening and the young defender said: “He’s (Solskjaer) a very good manager and is a legend in Norway; it’s been very good for me to work under him.

“I spoke to him about Brighton and he said it’s a good opportunity for me. I’ve made my decision to move and I’m happy about it.”

Ostigard will initially link up with Albion's under-23 squad but his progress will be monitored by Seagulls boss Chris Hughton.

On his move to Brighton, Ostigard said: “It’s a dream come true for me. Most players in Norway dream of moving to a Premier League club. I am very grateful to be here.

“It’s always a new experience when you go to a different country. There is a big passion for football in England and I am looking forward to playing here. It’s the perfect next step for me in my career. I now want to play in the Premier League.

“I am very excited to show the manager my qualities, but I have to prove myself and work very hard to get up to the first team. Hopefully I can do that and show that I’m good enough.
