Munday out to make his Marc

Marc Munday in the thick of the action for Bexhill United against Haywards Heath Town during his previous stint at the club

The 32-year-old former Bexhill player was given the reins at the Sussex County Football League Division Two club at the end of last week and says he can’t wait to get started.

“I’m absolutely chuffed to have been given the opportunity and can’t wait to get started,” said Munday, a plasterer by trade. “I wanted to play (for Bexhill) this year initially and when the job came up, I thought ‘why not’? I’m looking forward to the future now.

“It’s probably come sooner than what I thought initially, but it’s always been my thing to go back to Bexhill. It’s been the only club I’ve really enjoyed in recent times because you’re playing with people as passionate as you are. I think of it as my club; it’s the one I’m the most passionate about.”

Munday was a regular fixture in the Bexhill side which came fourth in Division Two during the 2010/11 season under the management of Gerard Moyse - their highest placing this century.

A whole-hearted midfielder and sometimes defender, Munday has also played senior football for the likes of Rye United, Sidley United, Burgess Hill Town and Eastbourne Town. And despite making his first foray into management, he isn’t about to hang up his boots just yet.

“I’m signing on and I will be a player-manager,” continued Munday. “It’s going to be something that will progress into full management. If I’m good enough or I need to step in, I will. I still feel I’ve got something to give.”

The same applies to Munday’s assistant, Andy Atkin, the former Eastbourne Borough striker who announced his retirement from the game while at Rye partway through last season.
