'One of the most ridiculous things I've heard in my life' - Robbie Savage's response after fan suggests Chris Hughton should leave Brighton
Former Wales international Robbie Savage was left gobsmacked on BBC 5 Live this evening when a Brighton & Hove Albion fan suggested Chris Hughton should step aside.
Savage, who played for Crewe, Leicester, Birmingham, Blackburn and Derby, and also had a brief loan spell with the Seagulls, was hosting his 606 Show when a Seagulls supporter asked if Brighton should look for a more attacking manager and if Hughton had reached his ceiling.
In four years at Albion, Hughton has taken Albion from 20th in the Championship to their current position of 12th in the Premier League.
Brighton had won three successive top-flight games for the first time since 1981 until today's 3-1 defeat at Everton.
Savage did not hold back in his response and said: "Wow. You've made an argument, but wow.
"To say Chris Hughton should step aside, you are 12th in the Premier League after staying up last season, you've got 14 points, and I would suspect the wage budget is one of the lowest in the Premier League.
"In all my years of 606, I've got to say that is one of the worst shouts I've ever heard.
"In nine years of doing this show, when you've got a man in Chris Hughton who got you promoted ... I think that is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard in my life."
The vast majority of comments on BBC 5Live's Twitter account were in full support of Hughton and the job he has done with Brighton.
