The 34-year-old initially joined the Seagulls on loan from Stoke City in January, 2016, and then signed a permanent one-year deal last summer.

That contact expires at the end of this season but Sidwell feels he can do a job for Albion in the Premier League.

Speaking after winning Albion's goal of the season award, for his stunning strike at Bristol City in November, Sidwell said playing in the Premier League again was why he joined the club.

"That's the main reason I came to this football club. It wasn't a matter of if the football club would get into the Premier League, it was when.

"I'm really proud of the achievements that myself, the whole team and the club have done this year of getting to the Premier League and making history.

"I want to be a part of it next year because I know we can stay in the Premier League and I want to be involved in that. If we can get something sorted, great. If not, it's not meant to be."

Sidwell has been pleased with his form this season and added: "When I signed the contract last year, no one expected me to play as many games as I have or to have as much of an impact as I have.

"I'm a veteran as they say around the football circuit, although I hate saying it, but I've still got plenty of years left in me yet.

"When I've played, I've played well and put my best foot forward. I've given myself every opportunity to earn a new deal.

"If there's one on the table and we can thrash it out and get it done, we can all enjoy the summer."
