Town boss Skipper proud of fighting effort at Hawks as Amex dream ends

The Barrowmen suffered a 4-0 defeat to National League South side Whitehawk in the quarter-finals on Tuesday night.

It ended a giant-killing run of five wins over higher-division opposition in cups this season, but the Enclosed Ground side, who boast a number of former pros proved a step to far.

In a matched being played at the third attempt - the scoreline looked harsh on Town, who didn’t conceded until a minute before half-time as Jordan Rose netted.

Goals from Jake Robinson and brace from debutant Junior Morias then booked Hawks’ spot in the semi-final against Worthing.

Skipper said: “The dream of a trip to the Amex ended at Whitehawk, but it wasn’t without a fight.

“Losing 4-0 to such a quality side probably to most wouldn’t reflect the superb performance the lads put in.

“Yes we defended for our lives at times, but with a little more quality in the final third from all the players we could at times have caused some problems of our own. But on the night that was the only area where we could have done and expected to do better.

“Elsewhere in the game we were immense. It was only on the stroke of half-time when we conceded and it was a shame we couldn’t hold off to 0-0 at half-time.

“Myself and my management team had a game plan which the lads carried out to a tee throughout the game and didn’t look out of place in such company.”

Skipper is now hoping they can kick-start their stuttering league season and climb away from the Division 1 relegation places.

He added: “Cup runs are now over and some superb performances have been given this season. It has been one to remember. Now we go on with the league and planning for next season.

“There is no doubt that we play better against better sides but we must now go to Seaford on Saturday and bring that level of performance and take the three points.”
