Weather plays havoc with West Sussex sport

There's no let-up in the freezing conditions and snow is reported to be on the way - and inevitably, sport is being badly hit.

There are many football matches off across Sussex.

The Rocks’ visit to Eastbourne Town in Ryman one south was called off after a 10am inspection.

Selsey’s home game with East Grinstead and Midhurst’s Rotherfield game against Eastbourne United went the same way.

A pitch inspection at Chichester City had the same outcome, with their game against Hassocks postponed because of a rock-hard pitch.

Bosham were spared a trip to Broadbridge Heath by an early decision to postpone their Sussex League division-three game.

But there is some sporting action locally - Chichester RFC’s London one south clash with Basingstoke goes ahead after an 11.30am check.

Fontwell are due to race on Sunday afternoon but have lined up an inspection on Saturday afternoon.

And there are growing worries that the Chichester Priory 10k could be affected.

A statement issued by the organisers said they were hopeful temperatures would be up above zero on Sunday morning.

They said:

* If it ‘just’ cold the race goes ahead.

* If there is a very heavy frost we will need to inspect the course to ensure there are no serious ice patches.

* If it snows lightly then the race goes on.

* If it is more than an inch of snow and freezing then we will have to call it off.

* If the Police say it is unsafe again we must call the race off.

We will update this story as the weekend progresses with news of what’s on and what’s off.
