Gentleman Jack joins Bears’ big banger-racing bash

After a quiet year by his high standards, France is set to add some extra spice to the meeting as he seeks to upstage the new generation of drivers.

Hosted by the country’s largest and most respected team, The Bears, The Bears’ Big Bash aims to raise as much money as possible for the Royal Alexandra children’s hospital in Brighton.

More than 130 drivers from right across England, Scotland and Wales will be descending on the Sussex village of Arlington, to do battle and to support a very worthy cause.

For the first time, a sizeable contingent has been attracted by the organisers to cross the water from mainland Europe. Team Wolf has a four-man team travelling from France, while Hammertime are a team from Holland renowned for their hard hitting.

As well as The Bears, other teams racing and crashing include the Wild Bunch, The Squad, 3 Litre, Wonky Donkey and the Wild Boyz.

With so many drivers descending on Sussex with the intention of taking on the sport’s biggest names on their home turf, The Bears may have their work cut out to preserve their reputation of being the biggest and the best.

Traditionally, the strength in depth of the team always sees them victorious in the Destruction Derby where the last car running is the winner. There will be several drivers looking to return home with that scalp, but only time will tell.

This is the third time The Bears have hosted this event, which has grown year on year. The meeting has become so popular that a move to a purpose built stadium became essential on Safety grounds.

With Arlington being The Bears home track, where better to hold this massive event.

“Every family in Sussex, including my own, knows somebody who has benefitted from the care and treatment offered by ‘The Alex’ over the many years it has been open” said Bears team captain Nigel Riley.

With such a mouth-watering fixture, a sell out with the ‘Car Park Full’ boards being raised is expected…so arrive early.

Racing starts at 5.30pm with gates open at 3.30pm.
