Hurst students aiming for more silverware in netball and rugby

Both girls and boys teams at Hurst made headlines on Thursday February 25.

The Girls’ U16 Netballers won the Sussex Independent Schools Netball Association Cup. They took on stiff competition from all over Sussex and came out as champions for the second year running.

Hurst hosted the tournament this year for both the U16s and U18s and it was great to see over 20 teams at the event.

Hurst’s 1st VII also put in a very strong performance not losing on the day. They were runners-up on the day on average goals per game after tying on points and goals conceded with the eventual winners.

Hurst’s 1st team is almost exclusively made up of Lower Sixth Formers so there is a lot of excitement for this team’s aspirations next year.

Head of Netball, Bex Jutson, said, “It was a wonderful afternoon of netball with lots of competitive spirit. I am incredibly proud of both Hurst squads who pulled together at crucial times and always conducted themselves so well in the tense situations. I am delighted for the U16’s who played their last crunch match with determination and flare. The 1st squad and I are naturally very disappointed but to not drop a game all afternoon shows what we are about and where we are heading.”

Hurst’s U14A Rugby team became the third Hurst team to book their place in a Sussex Rugby Cup Final after their composed 15-12 victory over Seaford.

Seaford were a strong physical side and used this to their advantage to go in with a lead at half-time. In the Second half, Hurst’s attacking prowess came to the fore.

Two unanswered tries meant the U14s booked their final place along with the Hurst U16s and U15s.

Director of Sport, Rob Kift, commented, “The boys put in such a cool headed performance and showed great fitness levels to push through to the end. To repeat last year’s feat of having 3 teams at finals day is excellent and here’s hoping to more success.”
