Laura second at Lancing

Uckfield's Laura Burton has struck a purple patch and chalked up probably her best cross-country run to date when she achieved her highest-ever placing in a Sussex League event by finishing second at Lancing Manor on Saturday.

The previous weekend Burton had competed for the Sussex team in the Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships on the Saturday and won the Eastbourne Half-Marathon on the Sunday.

On the muddy Lancing Manor course she took the early stages of the 5km race steadily, but in the second half she upped her pace and passed several rivals to take a splendid second behind Crawley's Julie Briggs in 19 minutes 13 seconds to the winner's 18.30.
