George Baker’s Mamillius has rock solid claims hunting for a hat-trick in the Bombardier “March To Your Own Drum” Handicap (1:30) and will certainly be fancied to record his third successive victory.

However, there is an issue preventing me from unloading at short odds. In both of his recent wins, there was no real pacemaker, allowing the eight-year-old to run on well from the rear of the field. Today, the inclusion of Fred may indeed throw a spanner in the works - as Franny Norton is all but certain to go off at a blistering pace. Should this be the case, it may leave the favourite vulnerable and open the door for the strong travelling INEVITABLE OUTCOME to pounce.

The filly took a liking to this trip at Kempton last year when triumphing at the first time of asking - with the now 96 rated Dashing Roger following in her wake. She comes into this race off the back of a very respectable performance at Wolverhampton when travelling very strongly, before being unable to quicken and finding only the subsequent winner Album too good.

David Loughnane and Rossa Ryan are in flying form at the minute, returning four winners and three places from their ten runners this year (a profit of £31.50 to a £1 stake), and they could be able to add to that impressive record with this four-year-old.

The Betway Handicap (2:35) is a classic all weather conundrum for a class two handicap. Should you look for proven form from one of the exposed contenders or take a punt on the lightly-raced colt to land the spoils?

All five runners arrive at Lingfield Park holding live chances, with four of them being separated by just a length and a half at Kempton last time out. Streamline returned from a lengthy break after showing some exciting form as a two-year-old, Aberama Gold and Brian The Snail made an appearance having been neck and neck over this course and distance in December, whilst Above continued his consistent form in third.

If I was to stick my neck out for anyone, it would be for the latter to strike on the artificial surface at the third time of asking. This sharper trip should suit and he’s displayed the turn of foot needed to win around here.

But if you’re having a punt, tread carefully, as these waters are awfully treacherous.

Selection: ABOVE 9/4

One worth noting away from the all weather comes a mere 435 miles north in the heights of Musselburgh. The feature of the day (2:25) throws up an intriguing candidate in the hat-trick seeking TOMMY’S OSCAR.

Ann Hamilton’s six-year-old jumped with elegance on the way to recording a cosy victory at Newcastle last time out and appears to be on a workable mark of 124 now handicapping. The manner in which he quickened away from his thirteen laboured rivals was very impressive and, whilst Goobinator will have conditions to suit, his jumping is a big question mark in comparison to the handicap debutant.
