Palmer’s F1 talks are ‘ongoing’ as he returns to the race seat

The Southwater driver was last in action a month ago at the Hungaroring, where he showed his renowned overtaking skills to defeat championship rival Felipe Nasr in both races.

Palmer extended his championship lead over the Brazilian and took his eighth podium finish from the 14 races held so far.

The 23-year-old is also the only driver to have finished every race in the points in 2014 and he revealed last month that talks are ongoing for a Formula One seat next season.

The Briton is yet to test an F1 car, but has impressed in races and qualifying and he has revealed he is now in negations about an F1 race seat.

He said: “Things are progressing. So far this season things have been almost perfect for me minus the little blip in Austria, but really everything is coming together well. There are some Formula 1 talks progressing, but not much I can say at the moment.

“But definitely I am aiming to be on the grid next year in 2015 and at the moment win GP2. We are moving closer, but the one big focus at the moment is to win GP2.

“It feels great to be back racing this weekend after the summer break.

“I love driving at Spa, it’s a really challenging circuit with lots of high speed corners where you need to be super committed.

“As usual there, the weather can play its part and I’m sure strategy will be crucial as always.

“Overtaking is easier at Spa so I expect the races will be as exciting as usual. The aim is to be back on the top step of the podium.”

The driver has enjoyed an outstanding season in the F1 feeder category.

He became the first Britton to lead the championship going into his home race at Silverstone earlier in the season, since Lewis Hamilton was competing in 2006.

The first practice session of round 15 and 16 get underway at 11am tomorrow.
