Promotion party time for Hastings

HASTINGS United are celebrating promotion to the Ryman Premier after clinching a deserved 2-0 win at Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday.

Two goals in nine second half minutes saw Hastings triumph in a hard-fought Ryman Division One South play-off final.

They opened the scoring on 56 minutes when a weak back-header by Joe Vines let in Ade Olorunda who held off a defender before tucking away a neat finish beyond the dive of goalkeeper Dave king.

Olorunda was also at the heart of the second goal when the in-form striker was brought down by Oliver Hunt in the penalty box just as he was about to race clear.

Hunt was shown a straight red card as the last man and Lee Carey kept his nerve to convert the spot-kick much to the delight of the travelling hordes of Hastings supporters.

Tooting tried to get back into the contest and twice hit the crossbar through Allan McLeod and Matt York, while Hastings goalkeeper Lee Worgan did well to beat out a rasping drive from Paul Vines.

The first half was a tight affair with Hastings' best opportunities falling to Carey, but the young midfielder wasted a glorious opening from an Olorunda pull-back and only a superb clearance prevented him from getting the benefit of another slick piece of work by Olorunda.

Tooting struggled to create much against a defence which took its cue from the immense Sean Ray, while midfield duo Tim Olorunda and Dan Williams worked hard on a difficult playing surface which boasted more sand than grass.
