Ringwood hits hat-trick in opening day win

HASTINGS United kicked-off their new season in Ryman Division One with an encouraging 4-1 win at home to Fleet Town on Saturday.

Steve Lovell's side opened the scoring two minutes before half time when midfielder Steve Ringwood unleashed a stunning finish from an acute angle which thundered across the keeper and inside the far stanchion.

The visitors were on level terms just two minutes into the second half when the Hastings defence failed to deal with a long clearance and the ball found its way to Richard Mealey who couldn't miss from two yards.

But within six minutes Hastings had regained the lead with Chris Honey firing home through a crowd of players. Superb play by Carl Rook enabled that man Ringwood to extend the advantage midway through the second half and right on full time he completed his hat-trick with another sublime finish to put the seal on an impressive performance.

Hastings were due to visit Banstead Athletic on Tuesday August 17 before making the trip to Walton & Hersham the following Saturday.
