Rogers looks for character

WORTHING have two matches left in which to evade the League wooden spoon, after another fragile batting display on Saturday.

They are at home this Saturday in a local derby against a Littlehampton side desperate to regain the Division 1 status they suddenly lost at the death of last season.

Batsman Alex Harris and all-rounder Chris Mansell will return but Worthing will again have to manage without wicketkeeper-batsman John Kaye and left-arm-spinning all-rounder Ben Shelford.

Kaye's improvised stumping of Malcolm Johnson was a rare upbeat moment in another growingly dismally spirited afternoon for Worthing. Johnson snicked the ball onto Kaye's chest '” a missed chance '” but as the ball dropped, Kaye, palmed it onto the stumps. That left Bexhill 21 for two in reply to Worthing's 84 all out but their opponents took up the cudgel to win off just 75 deliveries in total.
