H&B win rugby derby

Hastings & Bexhill claimed local rugby bragging rights after triumphing 24-8 away to Rye on Saturday.

H&B did the damage in the second half of an end-to-end Sussex One game that remained competitive to the final whistle as they scored 16 unanswered points.

The visitors took an early lead with a Paul Sandeman penalty, but it was Rye who scored the first try 15 minutes into the game through James O’Donahue.

Ben Campbell raced over in the corner to put H&B back in front at 8-5 only for a Luke Cross penalty to bring the scores level at half time.

Two Sandeman penalties made it 14-8 before tries from Bruce Steadman and Matt Harboard sealed victory and a step in the right direction for an H&B side which has struggled of late.
