Sildey snap up Clarke and Farrier

SIDLEY United manager Liam Barham says that the new signings have not finished yet following the acquisitions of Wayne Farrier and Dominic Clarke.

Centre-half Farrier, an integral part of United's 2001 Sussex County League and cup double winning side, and striker Clarke, Westfield's leading goalscorer for the past two seasons, put pen to paper on Tuesday night.

"There's two or three players that I want to sign," Barham said, "and hopefully we're going to get them on board by the end of the week. I'm really pleased with Dom: he looks very strong and fit. Wayne's got a problem with his thigh, but I think he's going to be fit."

Another centre-forward, who has been involved with the youth set-up at Millwall, has also put pen to paper, as have just about all of last season's squad, including Adam Day.

Barham added: "We've had excellent numbers. The youngsters are coming up and the attitude's been brilliant, they're really fired up."

Sidley were this week seeking the permission of Pagham to play their FA Cup extra preliminary round tie at Gullivers on Sunday August 21.

The tie was supposed to take place the previous day, but Sidley Cricket Club have use of the ground on that day for a Sussex League fixture.

The cricketers were also scheduled to have use of the ground on the Sunday, but their friendly fixture on that day can no longer be fulfilled. Even if Pagham agree to the switch, it would still need to be ratified by the FA Council.

Bexhill United have yet to get the registration forms out, but manager Bill Trivett expects to have a similar set of players at his disposal for their return to senior football.

The main question mark at the moment centres around striker Wes Tate. The 22-year-old has been linked with Sussex Division Two rivals Wealden, but Trivett claimed the player phoned him to say that he would be training with United on Tuesday evening.

"I'm pretty sure the majority of the first team players will still be with us," said the Polegrove chief. "The atmosphere is tremendous and they can't wait to get started. A lot of them have looked after themselves in the summer and I think they've been absolutely spot on. There's been quite a few new faces around and I think the reserve side will be completely different to last year."
