Speedway star Richardson dies in crash

HASTINGS-born speedway star Lee Richardson has died following a crash while racing in the Polish league.

The 33-year-old Ex-Eastbourne Eagle and Great British rider was involved in an accident racing for PGE Marma Rzeszow against Betard Sparta Wroclaw.

Richardson is reported to have struck a safety fence and suffered internal bleeding in the chest area, as well as breathing difficulties.

The married father of three later died from his injuries in a hospital in Wroclaw.

Richardson, who still lived in the town, most recently raced in the Elite League for the Lakeside Hammers and represented Great Britain on numerous occasions. He also rode for Swedish league club side was Vargarna.

His committed performances and his friendly nature made him a firm favourite with the Arlington fans when he was the number-one rider in 2008.
