Entries for the 2014 John Smith's Brighton Mile Challenge Trophy have been released. This year's renewal looks set to be a thrilling contest, with horses representing a number of the countries' top training establishments.

Two of the race's 28 entries come from Richard Hannon's yard, one of which, Desert Society, is a previous course and distance winner, whilst Mark Johnston who was responsible for last year's winner, Party Royal, has three horses entered, including Skytrain, who came third in the bet365 stakes at Glorious Goodwood on 29th July.

There are three more course and distance winners included in the potential line-up for the race, the most successful of which being the George Margarson-trained Sword of the Lord, who completed a quick double here in October of last year. A further four horses are previous course winners, including Secular Society, who won over 10 furlongs last time out at Brighton in July, and Good Luck Charm, who is owned by local syndicate Heart of the South Racing, and trained by Gary Moore nearby in Horsham.

Once again, the race looks set to be sent off with the maximum field of 16 runners, and with so many proven horses in the mix, it is guaranteed to be an exciting feature race on the opening day of Brighton's three day festival.
