Stunning Swallows attract interest at Itchenor

The Itchenor Sailing Club Swallow fleet held a very successful guest day with 14 visitors joining the regular fleet to enjoy a taster of fast keelboat racing in champagne sailing conditions on Chichester Harbour.

The sun was out, the temperature warm and the wind was in no short supply. Gusts of up to 27 knots were recorded on the Cambermet weather beacon while racing was taking place in the morning. Sailing was followed by a lunch and prizegiving at the clubhouse.

The guests were all experienced dinghy sailors looking to make the move to close racing in fast keelboats and conditions could not have been better.

ST WILFRID’S CHALLENGE

The St Wilfird’s Hospice Coastal Yacht Challenge prizegiving was held at Foreshore Classic’s yard at Birdham Pool.

The event, attended by close to 50 people, was held in Brian Haugh’s classic boat repair premises, which had been transformed for the day.

After the prizes were awarded by double Olympic gold medal winner Sarah Ayton, a cheque for £15,485.56 was presented to Avril Robinson of St Wilfrid’s Hospice by Patrick Doyle on behalf of the organising club the Inn-Shore Cruising Club.

To round off the day, sumptuous refreshments, compliments of Philip Waters of Takestock UK, were enjoyed by those present.

The 14th St Wilfrid’s Hospice Coastal Yacht Challenge will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2015 and it is expected that the total amount raised will pass £200,000. More information at www.sail4stwilfrids.com
