Sussex Pairs Tennis Champions

JANE Lavender and Emma Gibson from Burgess Hill School for Girls recently took part in the Sussex Pairs Tennis Tournament, held at St Bede's School.

There were ten schools competing and the girls were in excellent form. In the group stage Jane and Emma won all their games beating St Bede's, Mayfield, Moira House and Towers to advance to the semi-finals. There they played Eastbourne College, losing just two games in the whole match.

In the final they played Moira House and continued to play some excellent tennis beating them 2 sets to 0. The girls played six matches in total, winning eighty games and conceding only four to become the Sussex U15 Pairs Champions.

Fellow pupils Isabelle Gibson and Claudia James recently took part in the U13 Invitational Tennis Tournament held at Mayfield School. The girls played some excellent tennis throughout the competition.

In the group stage they beat St Bede's 5-3, Tonbridge Grammar 5-1, Kent College 'B' 5-0 and Mayfield 'C' 5-0 to advance to the semi-finals.

There they played St Bede's 'A', winning 6 games to 3 to book a place in the final. Brighton College were their next opponents and with the scores at two all, it was a closely contested match.

However, the girls held their nerve to go on and win the match 6-3.
