Texan troubadour Micah P Hinson is set for a welcome return to BN1 as he tours his latest acclaimed album.

The likeable, gruff-voiced Hinson, and a full band, will perform songs from the album Presents the Holy Strangers, at the Komedia on October 3,

He describes the album as a ‘modern folk opera’.

In the past his songs have been extremely personal affairs, leading the Guardian to note that he summoned ‘beautiful music out of bitter experience’ but the new material is a very different beast.

Telling the story of a war-time family, going from birth to love, to marriage and children, to war and betrayal, murder to suicide – spanning all of the strange and glorious places life can lead. Two years in the making, Micah wrote and recorded The Holy Strangers in Denison, Texas, incorporating ancient reel to reels, analogue keyboards, old Tascam and Yamaha desks.

The results of his labour are at times sparse and haunting; at other times luscious. Support comes from Alexi Erenkov’s duo, The Saxophones.

Accompanied by his wife, Alison Alderdice, on percussion and samplers, they blend the darkness and melancholy of 1950s balladry with minimalistic woodwind arrangements.

Tickets £15 in advance. The show is for over 14s and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
