Fragments of the West Pier set to go on sale to help fund historic kiosk

The sale will take place at the West Pier Centre on Kings Road, between 1pm and 5pm, and funds raised will go towards restoring an octagonal kiosk that was part of the West Pier.

This follows a previous auction that ran between August and September last year.

The retrieved pieces of the pier are cast iron fragments, some of which have been cleaned to look how they originally would have, while others have kept their original paint finishes and have suffered some minor damage.

There is a limited selection of the fragments available and they will have a starting price of £75.

The cash will go towards the restoration of a West Pier kiosk, the last remaining complete element from the original pier.

Once it is restored, the West Pier Trust plans to use it as a Seaside Learning Centre, which will provide talks, exhibitions and guided tours.

The kiosk will be adjacent to the new West Pier Centre sited in one of the rebuilt seafront arch units.

It is set to be used as a gallery and performance space during the Brighton Festival, Punch and Judy workshops during the summer and provide a base for photographic studies of the pier head ruin.

The design phase of the project has cost £115,000, which the West Pier Trust raised, while the overall project will cost around £1m.
