Part of a major new series called Art, Passion and Power: The Story of the Royal Collection is presented by renowned art historian Andrew Graham-Dixon.

During filming Graham-Dixon looks at the works of art on display which were bought by King George IV when he built the palace as his extravagant seaside home. They are on long-term loan from the Royal family to be displayed in the Royal Pavilion.

The film features the banqueting room as an example of the King’s taste and one of the Chinese figures which line the Long Gallery.

The Royal Collection is one of the largest art collections in the world. Containing over a million works, it not only covers all aspects of the fine and decorative arts, but is also a personal record of the tastes and passions of kings and queens over the last 500 years.

The programme will be broadcast on BBC Four on Tuesday, January 30 at 9pm.
