Bognor Regis Music Club members lead lunchtime recital

A FINAL lunchtime recital ended on a high note for a Bognor Regis church.

Flute player Paul Dorrell and pianist Chris Coote played in the sixth of the free recital series organised by Rex Latter, organist at St Wilfrid’s Church in Ellasdale Road.

As leading members of the Bognor Regis Music Club, both Paul and Chris agreed to conclude these recitals.

The standard of playing was judged to be superb and the audience was treated to a wide variety of music.

The recital began with Paul and Chris playing the three movements of the Sonata in G by JJ Quantz.

The music moved from light, airy and dancing notes to longer and more majestic statements and then finally to a serene waltz.

The second piece, a piano solo, was written in the middle of the 19th century by Schumann to attract the adulation of the society ladies of Vienna.

This was followed by a Donizetti’s musical conversation between the piano and flute written in an operatic style.

Laurence Wood of the church said: “Their performance was a fitting climax to these varied and exciting recitals.”
