Brighton writer seeks next screenwriting star

Founded by writer and former BBC Script Editor Phil Gladwin, who lives in Withdean, the Screenwriting Goldmine Awards will see judges from the BBC, Channel 4, HBO Europe and ITV on the panel.

They are joined by development executives and producers from some of the country’s most successful independent production companies such as Tiger Aspect (Peaky Blinders, Ripper Street), World Productions (Line of Duty), Left Bank Pictures (The Crown) and Kudos (Humans).

Mr Gladwin said: "Some of the biggest TV companies in the world are taking part. Each of our judges is guaranteed to read every single one of the short-listed scripts and those writers will get to meet them. This is the real magic of the contest. It sweeps away years of knocking on doors by directly connecting writers to the power brokers."

James Walker, winner of the 2017 contest, said: “Winning Screenwriting Goldmine has been a real door opener. I’ve had two offers of representation from agents and have been invited to meetings with various production meetings.”

2017 finalist Dingan Mkhize, said: “I can’t tell you how important the competition has been to me. The judges gave me contacts and advice and I am now writing a drama about a Nigerian crime family for a production company. The competition has solidified my dream of becoming a screenwriter and filled me with confidence.”
