Dance the night away at Queer Prom
Brighton Pride revellers are invited to reinvent their prom experience next Friday (August 3) at the Queer Prom Rainbow Ball.
After re-launching in January, Queer Prom returns as part of the official Pride Party listing, keeping with the festival’s theme ‘Colours of the World’ by throwing a ‘Rainbow Ball’.
The event will start at 7pm at Patterns, Marine Parade, and aims to give the LGBTQIA+ community an opportunity to rewrite what might of been a negative experience at their school dance or prom.
Vicki Cook, founder and co-organiser, said: “By coming together and throwing a prom that will change people’s past experiences, we also want to invest to changing people’s future.
“Not only will we party the night away, but we will unite in solidarity.”

As a non-profit organisation, Queer Prom will raise money for projects and services that support the LGBTQIA+ community, donating to the charity Mermaids and the LGBTQ Disability Project.
Vicki first launched the event in 2014 and picked it up again this year, collaborating with her partner Jules Haydon Guaitamacchi.
After selling out their Winter Queer Prom in January and feeling a demand for more tickets, they decided to triple the capacity of the venue — now they are on their final release of tickets priced at £15.
Vicki said: “Jules is a PR powerhouse. They took Queer Prom to the mainstream media and said, ‘Look! Look at this amazing thing that is happening in Brighton!’.
“Jules and I share the same passion and drive, and have skills that really compliment each other which makes us such a good team.”
There is no dress code for the night, but Vicki and Jules said ‘it’s an opportunity to wear the outfit your heart always desired’.
The sponsors are Brighton Gin along with ambassadors Cambell, Howie, Brooke and Charlie from the two part TV series Genderquake.
They are set to host a gin punch reception ‘meet and greet’ on the venue’s terrace — called ‘Ginderquake’.
There will also be performances from big names on the scene such as Alfie Ordinary and Benjamin Butch and Lydia L’Scabies.
