A welcome return for marvellous Marina at the Brighton Centre

Bouncy pop and ethereal vocals seem like an odd combination, but it's a sound Marina Diamandis has made her own.

Marina – who has dropped 'and the Diamonds' part of her moniker – is still as sparkly as ever, and wowed a Brighton Centre crowd on Tuesday night (November 5).

It had been seven years since she'd performed in the city during her Electra Heart days, and she's come a long way since then. But two albums and a Clean Bandit-collaboration later, Marina has arguably not hit the levels of fame that her talent deserves.

The Welsh singer-songwriter belted out an enviable back catalogue of catchy tunes, from the early 'Hollywood' and 'I'm not a Robot' to the more contemporary 'Orange Tree' and 'Handmade Heaven'.

The show was split into two halves – 'love' and 'fear', and although the 'love' part of the show seemed to fit the bill, the 'fear' half was as theatrical and upbeat as the first.

In both parts, Marina brought her excellent electronic pop with epic vocals, and the flamboyant show was further bolstered by beautiful choreography with the help of a talented troupe of dancers.

The people's vote part of the performance was a nice touch – when the audience was given the choice between 'Blue' and 'Oh No!' and the cheers of the crowd led to a performance of the latter.

It was a night of fun and feel-good tunes with the raucous and rowdy crowd clearly relishing the singer's return to the city. Let's not leave it so long next time Ms Diamandis...
