Brighton christmas lights switch on 2019: date, time and what to expect

The festive season is now upon us and Brighton is about to get into the spirit with the switch on of the Christmas lights for 2019. Although the city will not be hosting an official switch-on event this year, Donatello has teamed up with Brighton & Hove Buses for an alternative switch-on.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Brighton Christmas lights switch on 2019:

What are the timings on the night?

Brighton’s Christmas lights will be lit on Thursday, November 14. There will not be an official switch-on event.

The Donatello Christmas Light Switch-on will take place at 5:45pm on the same day at its restaurant in Brighton Place.

Who is switching on the Donatello Christmas lights?

Santa himself will be making a special appearance to count down the switch on atop the Santa Bus.

What entertainment is on offer?

Donatello will have a Christmas display outside the restaurant.

Brighton & Hove Buses will also be announcing the ten local charities benefiting from the Santa Bus collections made on its 20-night tour of the city.

Inside the restaurant, the cast from the Peter Pan pantomime will meet and greet guests.

There will also be a Christmas colouring competition and a balloon artist present.

Santa Claus will make a special appearance inside the restaurant following the switch on.

Donatello’s popular Italian food will be on offer throughout the evening but booking is essential as few family tables are left.

Brighton City Centre has several car parks. These may be busy on the night due to Churchill Square Shopping Centre’s later Thursday opening times and those travelling to see the Christmas lights in North Street. However, the area is well connected by public transport.
