Brighton Yoga Foundation to host first ever online festival

Brighton Yoga Foundation is hosting its first ever online festival on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26.

The two day festival is ‘Pay What You Can Afford’ to encourage everyone to join in the fun and the physical and mental benefits of yoga.

The festival includes four workshops from highly experienced international teachers Julie Martin, Dianne Bondy, Gary Carter and Norman Blair, offering a variety of yoga styles all from the comfort of your home.

As part of the festival, Brighton Yoga Foundation is also hosting a panel discussion on Saturday,July 25 3pm until 5pm ‘Black Lives Matter - Finding Diversity in Yoga’.

The panel, comprised of people of colour include Dianne Bondy, Jonelle Lewis, Kallie Schut, Amani Eke, Dirish Shaktidas and chaired by Yogamatters MD Twanna Doherty. The panel will discuss the Black Lives Matter campaign, its significance and impact on the yoga community. It will raise questions and begin to suggest actions for how the yoga community can radically improve its commitment to antiracism. Donations to join the online panel discussion will go to the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust.

Davy Jones Chair of Brighton Yoga Foundation said: "Our mission has always been yoga for All so we are really pleased to be able to host this important panel discussion addressing Black Lives Matter and Finding Diversity in Yoga. We need to take responsibility as part of the yoga community and ask the question ‘how can our yoga practice aid in our work for racial equity and social justice?’ We really hope you can join this important panel discussion’.

This inclusive community festival welcomes everyone to join and is suitable for beginners to more experienced yoga practitioners. All the family can join in the fun as there will be kids yoga ‘Story and Savasana’ on Sunday morning.

Brighton Yoga Foundation is a registered charity that provides free therapeutic yoga to those in the community that could benefit the most including women affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence. All donations to the festival will help the charity continue its important work. Brighton Yoga Foundation hosts an annual festival which is now the second largest yoga festival in the UK, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the festival this year has been cancelled, the charity hopes its online festival will help raise funds lost due to the festival cancellation.
