The Bexhill Art Society is hosting its Autumn show in the Stade Hall, Hastings, just yards from the RNLI boat station. That charity has agreed for a member of the team to open the exhibition on Tuesday, the 25th at 10 am.

Exhibition co-ordinator, Neil Buchanan said the purpose-built exhibition space was the perfect location to not only put on display all the art for sale, but to allow people to browse other pieces, Giclée prints and greetings cards, all created by talented amateurs in the area. The event, while free, will allow fundraising to run alongside it.

He said: “Everyone admires the work of the RNLI, and living on the coast so many of us use the water for inspiration. We wanted our exhibition – which is free to enter – to help raise funds through a prize draw and donations.

The prize is an outstanding, near-photographic quality acrylic painting of the new Hastings lifeboat, created by artist Martin Sutton.

The boat itself, The Richard and Caroline Colton, was named after the couple who bequeathed two classic Ferraris to the RNLI to raise funds for the new boat and launch system.

The 30x20 inch canvas will be signed by the lifeboat crew making it a unique collectable. Draw tickets are on sale for a minimum donation of £5, and one lucky art lover will have the picture on their wall.

Neil added: “Even though the RNLI has been lucky to receive some very large bequests it costs a lot of money to keep the service running all year round. Even the outfits the crew wear cost £1,000 each. We will be delighted to do our part to raise money, and everyone can help by entering the draw at the exhibition.”

What to expect

The gallery space will be filled with watercolours, oil paintings, acrylics and more, all created by the talented club members. Some smaller pieces start at £25, and others go up to £250.

There will also be the chance to meet some of the art society members, and find out more about joining yourself – new members are always welcome to this friendly society, not matter your level of experience. It meets on the first Saturday afternoon of each month at St Augustine’s Church Hall, Bexhill.

Save the dates

The exhibition runs from October 25 to October 30 at the Stade Hall, 20 Rock-a-Nore Road, Hastings TN34 3DW, and runs from 10am to 5pm each day.
