Unlike outdoor music festivals, which take place in fields and the countryside, The Great Escape is a mud and tent-free zone – instead it’s based in the city, with the performances taking place in Brighton’s clubs, pubs and gig spaces.

However, this year’s Great Escape does feature The Beach, an arena to the east of the Palace Pier with three stages. The site also offers plenty of bars, food stalls, hang out areas and pop-up performance spaces.

In the 13 years since The Great Escape was first hosted in 2006, the festival has become an important event for the music industry to showcase new acts and also to look for the next big thing.
