Spiritus Arts, the carnival group made up of students from Uckfield Community Technology College was awarded a lottery grant to research Uckfield's railway history and worked with the preservation society to bring the story alive for school children.

Local children - many on stilts, some drumming, all in amazing costumes - leave the college at 1.30 and parade down the High Street to Luxford Field where their performance continues.

Events are planned for the whole day, 100 local societies demonstrate what they can do and Uckfield FM will broadcast live.

The European market arrives early so be sure to be there for early morning French bread, pastries and gourmet favourites from all over Europe.
