Officers are appealing for witnesses to an assault in a children’s play park in Brighton.

Police said the incident took place shortly after 4.15pm yesterday (May 24) in the park at the end of Goodwood Way.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “The victim, a 36-year-old local woman, had gone to the park with a child where a man had let his two dogs off of the lead.

“The woman confronted the man, reminding him that dogs were not allowed in the park area and the two got into a dispute.

“The man then grabbed the woman’s neck causing her to fall to the ground and graze her knee. The man fled the scene before officers arrived and despite a search of the area he could not be located.

“The man is described as white and of stocky build. He wore black shorts but no top and had two dogs with him described as Staffordshire Bull Terriers.”

Anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident or may have seen a man matching the suspect’s description is asked to report online or call police on 101 with the reference 1054 of 24/05.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
