A community in Hove shared a £3million prize pot today, thanks to their postcode being drawn as a winner by People’s Postcode Lottery.
The event, held at Hove Lawns, saw winners who played in postcode sector BN3 5 presented with their cheques by Lottery ambassador Jeff Brazier.
One lucky player who played with the full winning postcode, BN3 5QF, won the lion’s share of the prize pot; a whopping £257,387.
As they weren’t available to attend today’s event, their prize will be paid directly into their bank account.
Three other players won £32,778, 19 neighbours walked away with £21,852 and a fantastic 203 winners were ecstatic with their £10,926 cheques.
Adrian Bradley, 49, a construction winner from the seaside town said that his £10,926 win was a dream come true.
He said: “I’ve been saving for a trip to Australia and Japan for years so this has well and truly sealed the deal.
“It’ll be the trip of a lifetime and that’s all thanks to playing People’s Postcode Lottery.
“I don’t know if any of my neighbours on the street play but now I’ll be telling them all to make sure they sign up!
“It’s an incredible feeling that’s great to share with the people you live beside.
British Airways cabin crew Daniel Reynolds, 38, discovered he was a winner whilst he was working in Los Angeles with a message from his husband Niall, but had to wait to find out what they’d won.
After discovering his £10,926 win at the event today, Daniel said: “It’s Niall’s 40th birthday next month and we have just celebrated our first wedding anniversary.
“We are heading to Versailles on holiday and this win means we can treat ourselves to a really special tour. We also have our sights set on getting another puppy.”
Husband Niall Taylor, 39, a business manager for Gulf added: “I’m a big believer in fate. We had a new boiler installed this week and we discovered the cupboard had money spiders in it - perhaps it was a sign!”
Amanda Norgate, 58, a school administrator said the win couldn’t have come at a better time for her and her family.
She said: “My husband hasn’t been working lately so this money has come at a really good time for us.
“We’ll finally be able to take our family on a holiday to Turkey and I’m sure we’ll be able to come up with a plan for the rest!
“It’s been a rollercoaster couple of weeks waiting to find out exactly how much we’ve won and I still can’t believe it.
“It’s been such an experience coming to the event today with all my neighbours and getting to share it with everyone.
“Everyone’s going home with such a difference made to their lives.”
As a charity lottery, players support more than 2,800 good causes across Great Britain and internationally. With a minimum of 30 per cent going to charity, players have raised over £212.8 million.
People’s Postcode Lottery Ambassador, Jeff Brazier, who met the winners today, said: “What a fantastic day we had in Hove handing out those cheques.
“It was a pleasure to meet all our lovely winners and see so many neighbours winning together.
“There were some absolutely delighted faces - congratulations to you all!”
