Residents and visitors in Eastbourne have been warned about ‘large chunks of rock’ falling from cliffs due to cracks expanding amid the cold weather.

A spokesperson from Eastbourne Borough Council said: “Ice can cause cracks in cliffs to expand, meaning large chunks of rock can fall hundreds of feet to the ground below without warning.

“If you’re on the edge or at the base, you’ll be in danger.”

People visiting the coast have been urged to be aware of the cliffs and the tide.
