Horsham YMCA lost 2-1 at home to Arundel as their RUR Cup tie on Tuesday evening ended in a major upset.

They were knocked out by Arundel from the division below them in the SCFL - despite having the lion’s share of possession and 12 corners.

Arundel opened the scoring in the ninth minute through Carl Brown, then, following three YM corners, Sekou Toure came close with two attempts for YM ahead of a testing free kick from Tom Tolfrey.

After three more corners and persistent YM pressure, they equalised when Charlie Tuck headed home.

On the resumption Aundel keeper Ali-Pa Susso made two excellent saves in quick succession before Stan Berry and Tolfrey (twice) came close.

Harry Russell missed a golden opportunity, only for Ash Hawkes to increase Arundel’s lead with ten minutes left.

YM manager Dean Carden said: “We created plenty of chances, but weren’t good enough to capitalise on them, and we were undone by two long range shots.”
